Allianz Guru Series by Henry Yang: Can I Change the World by Investing?

Back when I was a kid, one of the popular cartoons was Captain Planet (now you can guesstimate my age). Unlike the typical villains in popular superhero movies, the adversaries in this show are realistic and relatable. One of the toughest villains was Captain Pollution. This was the show that more or less opened my generation’s eyes — that we need to do something or else our planet may no longer be a safe place to live in.
Fast forward to today and the environmental issues remain the same, if not worse. Driven by climate change, super typhoons in the Philippines have been appearing frequently. I thought that the awareness in mankind’s self-destruction of nature is enough for people to change their trajectories. The sad reality is, somehow, our planet is still in danger of self-destruction. Get a glimpse of the planet’s current situation in this article by Allianz Global Investors as well as see the path toward a solution.

Save our environment. Just like forming habits in saving money, we can also build up habits that will be beneficial to our planet. We can be mindful of how we dispose of our trash – reduce, reuse, and recycle.

Ordering online and having it delivered is very convenient, yet it seems like an environmental nightmare when I see the multiple layers of plastic wrappers. Our choice of transportation is also one way we can contribute. If our destination is just close, we can consider riding a bike — and while we’re at it, check out Allianz’ pit stop and bike lanes.

Investing can significantly change our lives, especially if we’re doing it sustainably. Allianz PNB Life’s Peso-Hedged Global Sustainability Equity Fund considers not only the financial potential of the businesses that they have in their positions. They also scrutinize each company’s policies, actions, and impact to ESG before investing.
